With the advent of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, I thought to myself, “I wonder how I can make it easier to get friend codes so I can visit my friends!” and the thought struck me! Calling cards!
For those of you who don't know, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, Calling Cards were a simple way to leave a short message to whomever you had visited: gratitude for a lovely night out, condolences for their illness, or if you happened to swing by when they were not home at the time. There were some wild social rules when leaving a calling card that we might equate with texting etiquette today, but happily, we can ignore that in favor of handing a card with your Animal Crossing Info over to a new friend!
...And then the quarantine times happened. Our initial focus of socially-present friend cards has shifted to a more social-distancing-friendly focus of greeting cards and postcards. EVERYONE loves to get mail, and we all need a major morale boost right now.
It's happened to all of us at least once. You forgot to play Animal Crossing for a few days. It happens to the best of us: life is hard, and sometimes you get home and it's all you can do to make dinner, get a bath, or just crash into bed. But when you have time, you load up your game only to find that your favorite villager is moving away. It's bitter sweet; you know they will end up in a place that will love them, but you wish that you had kept in touch with them more, maybe given them that fish that you ended up putting in the museum.
Then it might dawn on you, as it dawns on all of us eventually: you haven't talked to your actual friends in some time. You haven’t sent a letter to your mother in...ever: meanwhile, you are unreasonably excited when your mom in Animal Crossing sends you a piece of garbage that you already have 3 of.
Well, have I got just the thing for you to ease that feeling of social obligation!
We here at Scared Shirtless have come up with some greeting cards and calling cards for your Animal Crossing needs! Our initial line will have a pack of 10 cards to send your loved ones, and paired with that in a bundle will be included a set of stickers, as well as “luggage tag” calling cards with spaces for you to put your Switch Friend Code and Dodo Airlines code. Pass them out at conventions when we're allowed to go outside again, and make it just a bit easier for new friends to visit you in a way that matters.
